I am an INFJ (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging), which is the rarest personality type IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. I am in 1% of people with this personality. (Although as I’m asking friends and family to take this test, I am surprised by how many I know. Maybe we gravitate?) The character qualities of INFJ’s explain…
…why I love being alone.
…why I read body language so well.
…why I’ve always been “mature for my age.”
…why I don’t casually date.
…why I’m good at English.
…why you think I’m cocky (because I am).
…why I always try to drag you into deep conversations.
Here are a few snapshots of life as an INFJ:
1) Sometimes, I HAVE to be alone. If I don’t get enough me time, I have to shut down when I’m in public. You will know when I’m doing this. This is when I’m not smiling or laughing when everybody else is or when I look like I’m bored or angry. I’m not upset. When I distance myself, it’s because I’m trying to fully understand something—a concept, a person, a situation, etc. Shh. Let me think.
2) I love school because when I learn a new thing, I connect it to everything else already know. It takes a long time to do this, especially if it’s difficult material. One string of information at a time, my brain becomes an intricate spider web of wisdom. I carry a notebook around with me everywhere just in case I need to capture another Aha! moment.
3) When I want to feel close to someone, I have to take the time to really study them. When I explain it, it sounds obsessive. But it’s a natural thing for me to keep this record in my head of everything I know about a person. I see patterns in behavior. I read the subtleties in your speech and your body language. I notice character development. I can tell when you’re hiding under a mask. You are like a beautiful character in a really fantastic book. And you should know that the more I study you, the more I love you.
So in the next few weeks, God and time permitting, I’m going to write some more portraits of what it’s like to be an INFJ. I do this because 1) it will be cool, I promise, 2) I’m obsessed with studying the MBTI types, and 3) everybody loves a freak. And if you want to see what your MBTI type is, you can take the test here: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp . Let me know what you are so I can study you more!
All of my love,
