I have identified myself by three areas for pretty much my entire conscious life:
2) Family and friends (relationships)
3) Singing and writing (creative endeavors)
These passions are innate to me; I’ve never not wanted these things. People in my life saw this and encouraged me in these directions, and this is now my identity. I value storytelling, emotion, psychology, connectedness with others, creativity, beauty, introspection, and a beautifully complicated and full life. Not just the breathing and the being but the experiences that you have and share with others.
It’s not so much about finding meaning as it is about sharing the story.
I see life through the lens of storytelling. In my mind, life is a book written by a caring Author. You grapple and engage with it every day, wrestling with the difficult passages, enjoying the careful and playful creativity of the writer, and investing in relationships. When I look at what I’m passionate about, it’s obvious that stories captivate me:
1) Christianity—You are a part of the story.
2) Family and friends—You share stories.
3) Singing and writing— You tell stories.
And that’s why I love things like long conversations after dinner, Pinterest, Pixar, Pretty Little Liars, Harry Potter, Broadway musicals, Greek life, journaling, worship services, mission trips—these are all different ways of sharing the story of life with each other in creative and inspiring ways.
And that’s what I want my life to be about. I want to share my stories and empower others to share theirs with confidence and transparency. I want to be faithful, loyal, and creative. And more than anything, I want to inspire and be inspired. That is the true magic of sharing the story with you.
